Another Hurricane Whips thru Louisianna

Review by Alabama Dee

Kathy Goss and I literally went thru "hell and high water" to get to Tanya's concert at the Delta Downs Casino and Racetrack in Vinton, La. this past Saturday.  I headed out from Mobile with clear skies and temperatures in the high 60's, but when I hit Louisiana (that's the hell part) it started thundering and lightning and raining like crazy. Kathy Goss called me on her cell and said lightning had almost hit her car, she was driving down from Shreveport, La.

Anyway, Kathy got there about 2 pm and I got there about 3 pm, we checked into our motel and even tho' we'd never met each other it was like we had been life long friends.  I'd left my bottle of tequila at Fl.Dee's house so we had to head out to find a liquor store. We did and I got my tequila and we also got Tanya a nice gift set of Crown Royal with two shot glasses for her Christmas gift.

Then we headed back to the motel to get ready for the concert, and I had quite a few margaritas while I was getting ready. So when we left for the concert I had a nice little buzz on. Yheeee Hawwww!

The casino was only about 5 miles away from our motel, so we were
there by 6:30pm or so and the concert didn't start till 8pm. Only problem was the parking lot was PACKED!!!
So we're driving around looking for a handicapped parking space, since I finally got my parking permit and I wasn't about to hobble all that way on crutches. We finally found the handicapped parking spots and Lord, they were wayyyyy out in the 'north 40', about a mile away from the casino. The wind was blowing like a hurricane and the temperature had dropped down to the 30's with a wind chill factor in the 20's! That probably sounds good to some of you yankees, but to us it was colder than hellllllll! My hat blew off and we finally found it 6 rows away.

It took about 30 minutes to get my freakin' wheelchair out of the back seat of my little Kia, and I tell ya, if I hadn't been handicapped before that, I sure as hell was afterwards!!!! Then I had to roll that sucker all the way up to the casino through puddles of mud and water, and by the time we got into the casino I had mud all over my sleeves and pant legs. Oh well....too late to change, and I sure wasn't gonna wash it off as cold as it was!!!

Anyway, we finally found the box office and picked up our tickets. Then went in to find our seats. OMG, we were on the very top in the last row. No way could I hobble up eight rows of stairs to get to my seat, so one of the security guards told me I could sit in the aisle as long as I didn't block the passage way. So poor Kathy had to go up to the 'nose bleed' section and I got to roll my ole wheel chair right up next to the stage. I got to sit on the right side of the stage right behind the sound mixer guy, and it was great, but I could only get side view shots instead of shots from the front. Oh well, ya can't have everything, and ya'll know how TT always goes to both sides of the stage and poses, so I think some of the pics came out pretty decent.

Once we got settled in and knew where our seats were, I had to go get another margarita....then rolled back up right as the show was starting. The conductor for the Imperials came out and introduced himself and all of the Imperials opened the show with a short little medley of Elvis songs. They still sound FANTASTIC!!!!!

And then............out came "Some Kind Of Trouble" looking smoking hot in black velvet pants, a long black coat with sparkles lining the sleeves and jacket, with a white and black sparkly blouse and her hair was long and beautiful!!!! She made several jokes about how tight her pants were, how she had to take a blow dryer to them to try and stretch them out some before she came out onstage.....and they were tight.....but NOBODY was complaining!

She started out the show with "Some Kind of Trouble", sounded andlooked fantastic!!!  It was s relatively small venue so the sound was fantastic and they had a Christmas backdrop.

All the regular band members were there, Jack (the cutie pie drummer), and he even had a suit on, Porter (lead guitar) was there,
the keyboard player, and I'm not sure of all the other's names. I almost didn't recognize Porter cause he had his hair slicked back "Elvis" style!! He looked soooo handsome.

After the opening number, Tanya said how great it was to be back in Louisiana, and did a couple of cajun calls and phrases....which I recognized, but didn't quite know what they meant. Then she went on to tell us all that her horse had come in first at one of the races that day and she hit the jackpot on the "Wheel Of Fortune" slot machine, so she was leaving there with a nice little chunk of change in her pocket!!! Go Tanya!!!! She was looking great, sounding great and was in a really good mood!!!

She went on and sang "Old Weakness", "I'll Come Back As Another
Woman", "Oh, What It Did To Me", "Strong Enough To Bend", "San Antonio Stroll", "Hangin' In, Hangin Out, Hangin' On". One guy in the second row back came in to his seat a little late in between "Some Kind of Trouble" and "I'll Come Back As Another Woman", and she told him...."you're late boy, you know what they say about the early bird getting the worm"....I had to chuckle, Tanya telling somebody else they were late! How ironic!!! LMAO. Anyway, when she did "I'll Come Back As Another Woman" she pointed right to him when she did the "I'll be back for you boy"...it was hilarious, and he was slightly embarassed but flattered!!!

Then Cali, (LaCosta's daughter) came out and sang Patsy Cline's "Blue", man, that girl is the second coming of Patsy Cline!!!! She can sing the hell out of Patsy's songs, and I'm quite sure Patsy would be very proud!!!!!! She is totally awesome!!!
Next Tanya came back out after getting her "ears' adjusted properly, and sang "Love Me Like You Used Too", "Window Up Above", "It's A Little Too Late", "Two Sparrows In A Hurricane", and "Lizzie and The Rainman". Then a guy brought her out a pair of "Elvis style" sunglasses and she went right into "In The Ghetto" with the Imperials singing backround vocals. It sent chills up my spine!!!! She can do Elvis almost better than Elvis!!! LOL Next, she sang "Down to My Last Teardrop", then left the stage and the Imperials did a medley of Elvis's Gospel songs!!!! IMHO, those were some of his best songs ever!!!!!

After a brief intermission, where we all hit the bar, and I got another margarita, the Christmas part of the show started! Tanya had changed into a short black slinky black dress with her hair pulled back into a
pony tail. She did a Christmas song, (sorry, I can't remember all the names of the songs, but "Christmas to Christmas" was one of them) then Cali and Presley came out and joined her in some more Christmas carols. Presley is a drop dead looker, and she has really matured in her singing and stage presence. You'd never know she's only 18! I do believe she could kick Carrie Underwood's butt big time if she wanted too!!! Anyway, the three of them did several carols, then out came the "little red headed firecracker"....Layla!!!! That girl is so comfortable on stage you'd think she had been born there!!!!  Then the four of them sang another Christmas medley of "Jingle Bells", "Rudolph the Red nose Reindeer" and "Here Comes Santa Clause". It was great!!!!!

Then Tanya closed the show with none other than "Delta Dawn" with
the Imperials doing backround.....OMG, it was totally awesome!!!! I have to say, of all the TT concerts I've been to, this was by far the best!!!!!!!!! It was over 2 hours long!!!!! And a costume change to boot!!!!

I have a feeling the concert in Nashville this coming Friday, 12/21 will be very similar, so if there is any chance you can still get a ticket and go.... DO IT!!!! I promise you won't regret it!!

After the show, the security guards told us where Tanya was having her meet n greet, so we headed down there to wait in line.  And it was a pretty long line!  they were only taking 4 people at a time, and by the time it came to our turn, security said that was all, she wasn't seeing anybody else. Well, that didn't sit too well with us....especially since Kathy has been a fan of hers for 30 years and never met her.

Anyway, I found out she was going to the casino to try and bankrupt the "wheel Of Fortune" slot machine. So we headed to the casino, and Kathy lost about $60 bucks in less than 10 minutes, so I wasn't about to play. Then all of a sudden I saw Tanya walk in behind Porter. I think she was headed to the "High roller" section, but we caught up with her and Kathy got her to autograph some pictures from the "Cutting Event" in Fort Worth on Nov.30th and she autographed Kathy and my Jackets and posed for a picture with Kathy, then we left. I think after all the other people in the casino saw her posing and autographing our stuff, they bomb barded her, and she probably never made it back to play her slot machine, cause her bus left about an hour later.

Then we headed back to the motel, I was tired as hell from pushing
that freakin' wheelchair around all night! I have a new respect for the handicapped, that's for sure.

Kathy and I stayed up talking til 5 am, and I finally fell asleep on Kathy.  Then we were up and checked outand on our way back home by 11 am  (well Kathy left at 11 am, I  left closer to 12 noon).

Any way, it was the BEST Tanya Concert I've ever seen, and I can't wait til this Friday,  when I'll get to see the entire show from the front! LOL
